No trip to London is complete without a visit to a proper English pub. And is there a better one to choose than the one where Chrales Charles Dickens himself used to drink? Based in Charing Cross, The Marquis was built in 1661, and is now a family-owned freehouse by The Morton Scott Pub Company. Their ethos is great beer, great service and good honest food.

This tiny pub and theatre dates back to 1415 and used to welcome George Orwell, Karl Marx and Stalin as its former clientele. Now, it’s a family-owned pub serving real ale and pies, complete with an upstairs theater which opened in 1979. Seating just 60 people, a number of plays here have gone on to play the West End.

The Queen’s Gallery – perhaps unsurprisingly – displays fine art owned by the royal family. The Queen’s Gallery was opened by The Queen in May 2002, as part of the Golden Jubilee celebrations and has a constantly revolving collection of artwork exhibitions.
